The Dolch and Fry Sight Words Lists Jump-Start the Road to Reading

The Dolch and Fry Sight Words Lists Jump-Start the Road to Reading

Knowing sight words is one of the basic building blocks when learning how to read. A sight word is a word that children can read readily without having to sound it out. Sight words also are generally phonetically irregular and used with high frequency in most publications. To lay a foundation for learning how to read it is imperative to introduce sight words to children. This bolsters their confidence until they become more able to read the written word. Definitive research that involved using sight words for reading instruction purposes supports this method. These studies were based on the premise that the English language is made up of some 500,000 words and only about 200 are utilized with regularity in printed text. Edward B. Fry and Edward William Dolch composed practical lists which today are still used and highly respected by both teachers and parents.

The Dolch and Fry Sight Words Lists Jump-Start the Road to Reading

Dolch, who has a PhD, published a study in the 1940s that transformed the method used for teaching reading. He wrote about his theory in a book Problems in Reading and explained that children who can identify a certain core group of words by sight could easily learn to not only read but also comprehend better. Dolch methodically composed this list containing some 95 nouns and 220 service words. He studied English text, with a focus on children's reading books, and selected words to include in his list. When a young child learns the sight words, she or he becomes a more proficient reader in less time than other learn to read methods.

Then Fry (who has a PhD too) in 1996 expanded on Dolch's research and published a book titled 1,000 Instant Words. This book is a compilation of the most common of the sight words and the list is arranged so that the most frequently used ones are given precedence. His research found that a mere 25 words (these words are listed on top) make up approximately one third of all items published. He discovered that one hundred words comprise approximately one half of all the publications written. Fry's list was composed based on these facts, as he worked to inspire young children to commit to memory these sight words to jump-start the reading process.

Both men understood how children should learn to read. Through repeated exposure to these regularly used sight words, many of which are phonically irregular, new readers learn to recognize them upon sight. This streamlines the learning to read process, allowing certain high frequency words to be recognized instantly, then the child need only to phonetically sound out new words seen in the text.

The Fry and Dolch lists are arranged by levels of advancing difficulty. Dolch's list of sight words was designed to be thoroughly learned and mastered by the 3rd grade. Fry's list, on the other hand, was separated into grade levels specifically for the first 6 grades. Today, however, many educators are pushing students to know most, if not all, of the Dolch list by the first grade and Fry's list by the fourth grade.

Children can have an enjoyable time learning the Dolch and Fry words. Parents and educators use various methods to assist new readers instantly recognize sight words. One such approach is incorporating repetitive exposure to these common words into computer or board games. This can be a particularly effective method since it is likely to capture and retain a child's attention.

10 Generic Book Club Questions to Jump Start Your Discussion

10 Generic Book Club Questions to Jump Start Your Discussion

You've been all over the web. You've searched every book club site you can think of, but you can't find a reading guide with discussion questions. Not a good sign-especially because it's your turn to lead the book club discussion. So now what do you do?

10 Generic Book Club Questions to Jump Start Your Discussion

10 Generic Book Club Questions to Jump Start Your Discussion

First thing-don't panic. Second-keep in mind that book club reading guides are fAirly new to the trade: publishers began issuing them with any regularity about 10 years ago, maybe less. So B.G. (before guides), book clubs actually had to figure out how to lead their own discussions. Yikes.

But even if you can't find a specific reading guide for your title, things still aren't as stringent as they were back then. Now you can find Generic Book Club Questions-like the set listed below. These 10 questions are designed for any novel and will generate rich, lively book club discussions.
How did you experience the book? It's not always helpful to talk about whether or not you liked the book, but rather how you felt as you were reading it? Were you pulled effortlessly into the book...or did you have difficulty getting into it? Why? Did you find yourself amused, intrigued, enthralled, disturbed, fearful, irritated, angered, or impatient? Are the characters convincing-do they come across as believable human beings with underlying motivations? Are they fully developed as emotionally complex individuals? Or are they one-diMensional, with little emphasis on their inner lives? Which characters do you admire or dislike-and why? What are their primary characteristics; how would you describe them? In what ways do the characters interact with others-a parent with children; a husband with his wife; a friend with friend. What motivates the actions of a given character? To what degree does the character's past play a role in her present actions? Are those actions justified or ethical? Do any characters grow or change over the course of the novel? Does any character come to learn something about himself or view the world differently? If so, what does she learn? Or is the character "static," unchanging from beginning to end? What is the central conflict of the plot? Is the conflict internal to the character (a psychological conflict)? Or is it external, having to do with character vs. character? Character vs. society? Character vs. nature? (Most novels have a combination of both internal and external conflict.) Is the novel plot-driven? In other words, does the plot unfold quickly, focusing more on action than on the inner lives of the characters? Which do you prefer? Is the plot well-developed? Is it believable...or is it forced? Is it suspenseful or more contemplative? Does it unfold naturally, or do you feel manipulated along the way by coincidences, odd plot twists, or cliffhangers? Is the ending satisfying? Predictable or not? Does is wrap up the ends neatly? Is it too neat, too pat? Does it leave some issues unresolved, questions unanswered? If you could change the ending, would you...if so, how would you change it? What central ideas might the author be exploring-the novel's themes? Consider ideas about the nature of love, the requireMents of goodness, the meaning of justice, the burden of the past...basic human issues that are at stake in the book.At times I think generic book discussion questions are better than the ones issued by the publishers. Those read too much like a nasty pop quiz. I can't answer the questions-sometimes they're too specific, too precise. In fact, I'm not sure anyone can answer them, except the author...and even then I'm not sure.
The generic book questions, on the other hand, are more open-ended and depend to a larger degree on the experience of the readers. And because of their broader nature, I think they get to the heart of a novel more effectively than the pre-packaged versions.
So the answer to the question above-what do you do when you can't find specific discussion questions for your title-is to relax. Use generic questions and you'll do just fine. In fact, you-and your book club-will do brilliantly!

A Jump Rope Workout to Lose That Last Bit of Stubborn Body Fat

When was the last time you jumped rope? For most people the answer would be back in EleMentary School or possibly Junior High. It's actually too bad, because it is a very efficient form of exercise. Most people could easily walk for 15 minutes, but I would bet less than 1 percent of adults could jump rope for 15 minutes straight. Very few people, besides boxers, have ever seriously used the jump rope to achieve top condition.

What Muscle Groups are Worked While Jumping Rope?

Jumping rope will seriously work every muscle in the body. I'm convinced that it will expose your weak links. After your first jump rope workout, you will be sore in many different parts of your body. Honestly, I think my enTire body was sore after my first jump rope workout. I was especially sore in my calf muscles as well as my abs. As a side note I will say that jumping rope will help you in your quest to get super-ripped abs. Your core really gets worked hard since you have to use your abs to stabilize your enTire body to help you propel your body through the Air.

How Jumping Rope Helps Your Body Release Fat Burning Hormones.

HGH is a natural hormone that your body releases to burn body fat. You have probably seen many ads for pills that will help increase your natural levels of HGH. This was really popular about 5 years ago, but you don't hear too much about HGH anymore. A high level of HGH in your body is the quickest route to burning body fat! Unfortunately, low intensity cardio won't help your body release HGH. The best way to increase HGH is performing high intensity cardio for 30-60 seconds or so, followed by a minute or two of walking or low intensity cardio. This is called High Intensity Interval Training.

What Type of Jump Rope To Purchase?

I recomMend getting a "speed rope"...these run around at most sporting good stores. They are plastic ropes without the beads. You also don't want to buy the weighted ropes. Get a jump rope that is adjustable. You are going to want to adjust the rope to an optimum level to jump quickly without hitting your head. If it is too long, you won't be able to jump at a Fast rate.

How To Adjust Your Jump Rope to the Correct Height: Set your jump rope on the ground Stand on the midpoint of the rope (an equal distance between the handles) Grab the handles and pull them up to your chest while standing on the rope If the top of the handles reach above your collar bone the rope is too long If the top of the handles reach your upper abs or lower, the rope is too short I like to adjust the rope so the handles hit about 6 inches below my collar bone If in doubt, go a bit too long and shorten the rope a bit as you get more experienced
Your First Two Weeks of the Program, Learn the Skill of Jumping Rope

Most beginners "double bounce" in between rotations. This actually allows them to rest their core a bit as well as their calf muscles in between rotations and means that they have a low level of core fitness. You will want to jump cleanly in between each rotation and keep the abs and core tight.

Your arms should barely move when you jump rope. The rotation of the rope should come from Wrist moveMent. If you want to increase the speed of the rotations, simply increase the tightness of the circles that your Wrist is making (this will make more sense when you start jumping rope). The goal of your first two weeks of jumping rope is to eventually work up to a point where you can jump rope for 5 minutes solid without having to stop and start again. This means that if you have to stop because the rope hits your feet, you have to start again from zero. You also want to be able to jump rope alternating feet, so it looks like you are running while jumping rope.

A Great 15 Minute Jump Rope Workout that You Can Customize to Your Liking

Stand in front of a clock or timer of some sort Jump Rope for 3 minutes to warm up Rest for 30 seconds Jump rope as quickly as possible for 60 seconds Rest for 30 seconds Jump Rope as quickly as possible for 60 seconds Rest for 30 seconds Repeat this alternating pattern for 15-20 minutes

Note: For the 60 second sprint, you can do it in running fashion, you can learn how to rotate the rope twice for every one jump, etc. As you get more advanced, you will be able to make the 60 second sprint extremely intense. Also, if you want to take advanTAGe of the Fast heart rate and burn even more body fat, hit a treadmill or exercise bike for 20-30 minutes after your jump rope workout. Oh yeah...you might need a towel...you should be sweating like crazy!

Hit this Jump Rope Workout Hard and you will begin to see definition over your enTire body!

Jobs for Felons - Jump Start Your Search for Felon Friendly Jobs With Free Help From the State

Jobs for felons are not easy to find in the current economic condition. One way for an ex-con to get assistance is to visit or call the state employMent office. Each state has a slightly different name (for example, "DepartMent of Workforce Services" or "Agency for Workforce Innovation") but the services they provide are mostly the same. They have thousands of Jobs listed in their database and they should be able to help you on the road to finding Jobs for felons.

All of these governMent employment offices have their own website where Jobs for felons are listed and job seekers can simply upload their resume or apply right away for those jobs. However, this is a rather inefficient approach since you will not know from the job listing on the website whether or not these are companies that hire felons.

It's better to call or visit the employment office and ask them for assistance in finding job opportunities for felons. When you call or visit their office, just be honest about your situation. Each year around 650,000 people are released from state and federal prisons in the U.S. so your situation is hardly unique. The state employment office will have at least one person who will know which employers offer felon friendly jobs.

Although most of the jobs for ex felons that are offered will probably not be very good ones, this is still a good starting point if you are willing to work from the bottom up.

While you are there you should also ask about government programs in your state that are in place to help you reenter the labor force and locate jobs for felons. They may also have information about non-government resources for felons such as church-based groups and other non-profit organizations that are active in your area. This can be a great resource in finding employment for felons.

To give an example of one such program, the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) is based in New York City. Its Neighborhood Work Project provides immediate employment opportunities to work releases, felons and ex-convicts while its Vocational Development Program assists them in preparing for long-term careers for felons. CEO reports that within two to three months, more than 65% of particiPants are placed in full-time jobs.

Job hunts can be really frustrating and oftentimes you might want to give up. Try to stay focused and positive and make the most of whatever resources are available to you. There is help out there and a good place to start looking is with your state in searching for jobs for felons.

Long Jump Basics

Long Jump Basics

For many track and field coaches and athletes, the long jump is an event that is viewed as simply a run and a jump. While that is the basic premise of it, there is a little more to it than that.

Long Jump Basics

Long Jump Basics

Long Jump Basics

Long Jump Basics

Long Jump Basics

Did you know that athletes don't need to be amazingly Fast to jump far? The more speed the better obviously, but there are other eleMents that come into play when performing the long jump.

There are actually four different eleMents or phases in this event.

The Approach The Takeoff Motions In The Air (flight) The landing

The Approach

More so than any other phase of the long jump, the approach is the most important. Without a consistent approach, you will definitely limit your distance. Not only that, you will foul much more than you would like to.

All new athletes come out and try to sprint down the runway as Fast as possible. Against what most coaches and athletes think, this is the wrong way to run.

The approach should be run as a gradual acceleration. There should be a slower start, and it should then gradually accelerate to a maximum controllable speed right to thetakeoff. Basically, a slow to Fast motion.

It must be gradual and smooth!

A gradual acceleration is what will develop consistency in the approach, and give you the greatest opportunity to reach those maximum distances.

The Takeoff

Another important aspect of the long jump approach that is often overlooked, is the last two strides. These strides are important because if they are done correctly, they will allow you to transition into the actual takeoff with as much speed as possible.

The second to last step or what is known as the penultimate step, allows the athlete to lower their body and gather themselves right before takeoff.

This lowering of the body helps to maintain the speed developed from the approach.

After the penultimate stride, the next step is the final one. This is where you takeoff and leave the ground.

If the body has been set up correctly from the penultimate stride, you will then be able to takeoff with a maximum amount of speed.

As your last step touches down, it must remain flat, and land with the heel first.

Now the leg quickly flexes. The muscles then release their energy and transfer it so that you can launch into the Air.

As you leave the ground, it is important to make sure that you jump out first. Jumping up, and jumping too high will cause you to lose distance.

So remember to jump out first!

Motions In The Air

The third phase of the long jump is also known as the flight phase.

Once you leave the ground and are in flight, you need to be able to keep yourself in control!

Many coaches and athletes believe this phase will make you jump farther. This is not true. The flight phase is used to control the body in the air, and set you up to land properly.

To control your body in the air there are three long jump techniques that you can use.

The Sail The Hang The Hitch-Kick

The sail technique is the most basic and is the easiest for beginners to learn.

This technique is as simple as trying to reach out to touch your toes.

The hang technique is performed exactly as its name implies.

The body hangs in the air with the knees dropped underneath the hips, and the arms extended overhead.

The hang is a little more difficult, but still fairly easy to perform.

The last technique is the hitch-kick. Many professional long jumpers use this technique. It is an advanced technique and can only be performed if the athlete is high enough in the air.

In the hitch-kick, the legs cycle around and look as if you are actually running in the air.

It takes quite a bit of effort to perform this technique, but it does a good Job of keeping the body in control throughout the flight phase.

As an athlete progresses they can then decide if they want to transfer their long jump technique to the hang or the hitch kick.

As you begin to come down out of the air these techniques help to prepare you for the last phase.

The Landing

In this section of the long jump the landing is used to prepare the body for the shock of hitting the ground. It also allows you to get as much distance out of the jump as possible.

Right before you hit the ground, depending on the technique you used in the air, you swing your arms downward and begin to lift your feet.

Lifting your feet will help you to squeeze a little bit more distance out of your jump.

As you land and hit the sand your knees fold, and you collapse onto your heels.

Since you swing your arms downward, this will help to move your body forward just enough so that you don't fall backwards.

Now that you have have hit the sand and come to a complete stop, you leave the long jump pit under control and wait to see what your results are.

If you follow these long jump tips than your chances of jumping far will be good.

Who knows, maybe you will end up setting some records yourself.

Jump Rope History

Jump Rope History

While many people associate jump roping with children on a playground, the fact is that jump rope history goes back to early human history. From the earliest days of rope jumping to today, the sport has evolved considerably and is now a competitive sport.

Jump Rope History

Jump Rope History

Known as jump rope, skip rope, rope jumping, and skipping, the activity dates back to ancient civilizations.

The Egyptians used to jump over vines, aborigines jumped over bamboo, and paintings from the medieval period show images of children jumping hoops. Many people associate jump roping with girls' play, but history indicates that jump roping was originally a man's game.

No one knows the exact jump rope history. There are a number of versions of the sport's history. What is known, however, is that the practice originated a long time ago, and eventually traveled around the world to become a popular pastime, a favorite form of exercise, and a competitive sport.

The Early Days

The moveMent of jumping is a natural one. People jump for sport, fun, and even survival, such as jumping out of the way to avoid a bite from a dangerous animal. Most jump rope history researchers seem to agree that jump roping dates back to about 1600 B.C., when Egyptians used vines for jumping.

Some also date jump roping to ancient China; however, the Western versions probably originated from Egypt. What is known is that jump roping, in some form or another, spread through Europe to the Netherlands, and eventually to North America.

Jumping Games

Early Dutch settlers were some of the first jump ropers in North America. Not surprisingly, one of the more popular jumping games is called 'Double Dutch.' In this game, two people hold two ropes and spin them in opposite directions. Jumpers then jump into and over both ropes.

In the early 1940s and 1950s, many children in inner cities used jumping rope as a form of play. It only required a rope, and anyone could play. From the late 1950s until the 1970s, however, jump rope history took a back seat to radio and television.

Jump Roping Revitalized

In the 1970s, an increased interest in physical fitness and overall health emerged. From programs promoting jump roping to keep kids from other unhealthy activities, to organized jump roping events made jump rope history evolve into a jump rope craze.

Since that time, jump roping has been recognized as a great way to get exercise. It is a fun activity, almost anyone can do it, and it requires very little equipMent. Serious jumpers have developed a number of intricate jumping moves and combinations.

All forms of jumping, from individual jumping to multi-person Double Dutch jumping, involves highly technical moves and amazing stunts.

Jump roping organizations and clubs can be found almost anywhere. Jump rope competitions are serious business, requiring specific timing and a high level of skill. With the ongoing interest in jump roping as an exercise option and as a sport, jump rope history may be a thing of the past.

What in the World is a Battery Jump Starter?

Have you ever left your headlights or some other electrical device on overnight and came out bright and early to start you car? The battery is completely dead. All you hear is the pathetic dying sound of that annoying buzzer in the dashboard. To add insult to injury your wife or husband has just pulled out of the driveway and they are gone.

What in the World is a Battery Jump Starter?

What in the World is a Battery Jump Starter?

What do you do?

Like most people you have a pAir of jumper cables but that requires another car. It is too early to wake you neighbor or picture a dead car on the proverbial deserted highway with no one to help you. This is where a battery jump starter can become your best friend. A jump starter or battery booster is the equivalent to having another car with a good battery packaged in a small, portable box. They are basically a rechargeable battery with a pAir of jumper cables attached. All you need to do is hook up the cables and start your car. These little jewels can be a lifesaver. They are compact and easy to carry. You can keep it in the garage or put it in the trunk. I have my wife to carry one, so she doesn't have to go wandering around some dark alley or parking garage with a pAir of jumper cables.

In a situation like this, a jump starter is the ticket to getting your car up and running.

Start It Jump Starter With Portable Power

Start It Jump Starter With Portable Power

Start It Jump Starters can be a life saver in emergency situations. These devices will allow you to jump start your car battery without the need for another vehicle. That means even if you are stranded in a remote location and find yourself hearing that dreaded clicking sound when you turn your ignition, you can easily start you car with this device.

Start It Jump Starter With Portable Power

Start It Jump Starter With Portable Power

Here are a few reasons why everyone needs a car jump starter. First of all, you may not always have a kind stranger or a friend conveniently around whenever you have a dead battery. If you are like me, I love to hike and often don't get back to my car until the park is just about to close, which also means that there are usually no other cars around by that time. There are a million othersituations where you might be in a remote location with no other vehicles around to give you a boost.

Secondly, your car may not always be in a convenient position to be able to get a jump from another car. The most common example of this I can think of is if you live in an urban area with parking garages with tight and cramped spaces, it would be difficult to get another car positioned correctly for the jumper cables to reach far enough to connect both car batteries. In a situation like this, you may not be able to get your car into a position to get a boost nor a kind stranger to help you maneuver the two vehicles to make this happen.

Believe me, the peace of mind of having a Start It Jump Starter that can conveniently be pulled out to jump start your car is invaluable. You may have a car with a lot of mechanical or electrical issues which cause your battery to die from time to time. If you have one of these cars, these devices are that much more of an essential item for you to buy.

Start It Jump Starter Has Portable Power

In addition to getting a jump for your car, these devices also give you the ability to have portable power. This device comes with a DC outlet, enabling you to power any electronic device that uses direct current or DC electricity, which is the same type of power you get from your cigarette lighter in your car. This means that you can recharge you cell phone or laptops when you're out camping or doing other outdoor activities.

Some models also likewith AC outlets, which is the same outlet you find in your house. That means you can Plug in any normal electrical device to this particular type of jump starter for your portable power needs. So when you go camping, you can Plug in your stereos, radios, laptops, and even televisions when you're camping.

Speaking of the cigarette lighter in your car, you can also recharge these jump starters using that DC power outlet as well. That means after you have jumped your car, you can turn around and plug it into your car cigarette lighter to recharge it for the next time you need it.

How can a car that just had a dead battery go on to turn around to recharge the thing that started it back up? That's simple. Because your engine is constantly rechargingyour car battery with it's alternator. The alternator takes the energy generated by the engine and converts it to charge your car battery. That same engine then can turn around to recharge your battery booster jump starter.

Black & Decker's Start It Jump Starter is one of the best jump starters you can buy out on the market made by one of the best hardware companies in the world. And it can basically any 12 volt battery boost, which is in most normal sized vehicles. The normal 300 amp device has enough power to jump any normal car like Honda Accords, to Toyota Tacoma's and even luxury vehicles which usually have larger engines. The more powerful 450 amp model can also jump larger heavy duty work trucks. I have afriend who used to work as an engineer for them and how well they testified to control quality and build for innovation. It's one of the highest quality devices out there.

In addition, most of the models also come with an Air compressor. This will allow you to inflate your car Tires, Bicycle Tires or sporting equipMent like basketballs, soccer balls and volleyballs and making. You can also use this to inflate pool toys like balloons and flotation devices.

Most models also come with an ultra bright LED light so you can jump your battery even when you're in the dark for road side assistance. Sometimes you don't know what you're missing until you don't have it. Daylight is one of those things. You'll be thankful you have this ultra bright LED light when you have a flat Tire on theside of the road or when you need to jump start your car in the middle of a dark parking lot. You can also use this powerful LED light when the power goes out in your house or when you need illumination at night during outdoor activities like camping and outdoor BBQ 's.

3 Important Steps That'll Make A Commitment Phobe Want Commitment

I've even met and worked with men and women who are so afraid of commitment that they self-saboTAGe themselves by presenting themselves in order to discourage unattractively the other person from wanting a serious relationship--even when they are attracted to the person.

Why do they do this?

Because they have fear-Filters through which they see commitment and have a particular emotion or unhealthy imagethey have attached to commitment. And just like all phobias, nothing is rational about their fear of commitment--or even conscious for most people. Most people know that they get anxious, panic and want to be "FREE".

This need to be "FREE" could come from fear of loss of identity or freedom, or fear of limitation, fear of responsibility, etc. It's different for each commitment phobe.

In my case commitment for me spelten "by finality." Words like: my wife, marry me, down the road, in the future, you forever etc. even if they were not applied to me or said to me directly would send me into panic mode--and I mean that literally, in that I would get up and take off (on foot, in a car, plane etc) to God only knows where. It felt like someone was screaming in my ear "prison, prison, prison "or" the end of the world is here! "

Is there any chance that your commitment phobic man or woman will overcome his or her fear of commitment and commit--to you?

Absolutely! If you are dealing with a classic case of "run as soon as you feel things are getting serious, his or her fear to commit is not always a warning sign that things will not work out or never. Your man or woman could still commit--and quickly--especially if he or she says he or she loves you, treats you exceptionally well but reacts negatively towards you when anything related to commitment comes up.

But this is not something that you can do on your own.

You can't pull out a commitment from a commitment phobe, however great the relationship is. And all the threats, ultimatums, pleading, hide-and-seek games, bragging how other men or women are attracted to you or even smothering him or her with attention will never get a commitment phobe to commit.

You need his or her cooperation to co-create a unified vision for your relationship and take action to realize that vision. For you to get your man or woman thinking commitment you have to take an approach that figuratively has both of you sitting on the same side of the table "striving together instead of the opposite sides of the table trying to" conquer "the other (adversarial confrontational style).

Here are just three things you can do--for starters.

1. Make sure that it is really commitment phobia

It's natural to wonder and have questions about a man or woman's emotionalavailability. Almost everybody has these concerns.

The trouble begins when you let your own "stuff" (ticking clock, co-dependency, jealousy and/or neediness) ruin A potentially great relationship. Your own internal pressures can make you jump to conclusions calling the other person a commitment phobe when in fact the other person is reacting to other stressors in his or her personal life or reacting to things in the relationship (your attitude, behaviour or actions) that have very little or even nothing to do with fear of commitment.

You want to be sure that it's not just you, but that there is really something going on with your man or woman that you need to know. And just knowing he or she has "commitment phobia" doesn't say enough. You need to know how he or shecame to the conclusion that he or she has commitment phobia, how he or she runs away, if he or she just wants a casual relationship with you but covering it up with saying he or she is afraid of commitment, whether he or she is interested in you for you or because you're convenient (an enabler), etc.

You need to get the answers from your man or woman and not resort to theorizing or doing raw psychology on him or her. You need to get the answers from him or her but without applying any pressure--or as little as possible. The more you press him or her for answers the more he or she withdraws from you or even walks away.

It's best to use creative, lively and thought-provoking questions that generate discussion as well as provide the answers you seek. Questions like, "What isthat like? "," How does that make you feel? "," Why do you think that happened? "," What did you know about ...? "," Explain what that means? "asked in natural ongoing conversations can uncover what your man or woman is thinking or feeling in-depth.

If you can keep him or her on the subject and he or she doesn't try to alter the topic of conversation you'll be able to get very useful information relating to his or her fear of commitment. You can then use this information to raise questions in his or her mind and stimulate his or her thinking in ways that challenge his or her fear-Filters and/or unhealthy emotions or images they have attached to commitment. This is not about you trying to Bbe smarter or trying to change his or her mind but you getting to the bottom of his or her fears, concerns, reservations as well as desires, hopes and dreams for a relationship.

2. Redefine what "commitment" means to you as a couple

Sometimes just discussing--in very specific terms--what two people want in a relationship and how you want your relationship to look like removes all the concerns about making a long-term commitment.

If your man or woman is open to talking about his or her fears and anxieties surrounding commitment, instead of beating him or her on the head with the word "commitment" or insisting that he or she commits (or else), communicate to your man or woman what you want in very specific terms.

Important: It is very important to be clear on what is important to you. Be clear about why what you really want is important to you. Your man orwoman needs to know exactly why you are asking for whatever is important to you, not just that it's important period.

Here are some examples of ways you can say "commitment" at different sTAGes of the relationship and without necessarily saying the "C-Word".

1. Honestly communicating feelings (important: feeling secure in the relationship).

2. Spending more time together or sharing most aspects of each other's lives (important: knowing that the other will always be there).

3. Putting your time and energy into making the relationship special and worth nurturing (important: emotional and sexual intimacy/monogamy).

4. Planning for the future--children and a family (important: marriage).

Concentrate on generating your own creatively, types and definitionsstyles of commitment that best fit the different sTAGes of the relationship--one progressive stage at a time. Each stage and level of commitment will look different from couple to couple, depending on what your values are, and on the circumstances surrounding your relationship.

Do not try to force your limited view of a relationship (which may even be unrealistic) on to your partner, instead allow him or her to imagine and explore what he or she really wants without the obligations of a pre-determined way of doing things.

Knowing that the two of you want the same things even if you are saying them in different ways can turn fear into creative excitement.

3. Focus on common goals as opposed to individual positions

Do not get yourselves locked up in "I wantcommitment and you don't "positions. When you take these kinds of positions, you get railroaded by "you vs. me "and in the end you lose track of why you are together in the first place.

Believe it or not, many people with a fear of commitment know they have a problem and most don't like themselves for being this way. But they also don't want some "know-it-all"--who doesn't know that it feels like to have this phobia--telling them how they should be feeling or what they should be doing. It's like saying "I am perfect and you are not" or "I am better than you because I am not afraid of commitment". I used to get really ticked off with ' stupid ' men sending me internet articles and buying me books on commitment phobia. It just made me want to "hurt" them instead of wanting tocommit.

Instead of following the dictates of one (I want commitment) or the other (I don't want commitment) explore the larger possibilities of working together to realize each other's dreams, support each other's goals and satisfy each other's needs. This is an opportunity to really take advantage of the creative power of two-heads-are-better-than-one.

The three steps are just a start. If handled with trust, honesty, absence of manipulation or control, and authenticity, you'll be surprised to find that conversations on commitment can create a platform for bringing your most honest selves to the table. You really get to understand what your man or woman is about, what he or she cares about, and what he or she really wants to see happen before he or she makes a genuinecommitment that he or she will follow through on.

Let me just say this again, you can't pull out a commitment from a commitment phobe without his or her cooperation. Threats, ultimatums, pleading, hide-and-seek games, bragging how other men or women are attracted to you or even smothering him or her with attention is the height of spinning your wheels.

You need his or her cooperation to co-create a unified vision for your relationship. If there is no alignment or no agreement, there will be no commitment.

We have all met people who talk a lot, who never seem to run out of things to say.

Why Do Some People Talk Too Much?

Have you ever wondered why some people talk so much?

If you are having a hard time making conversation with people, you have probably wondered why some people seem to find it so easy to make conversation with others. You may even feel envious of them, wishing you could be like they are talkative.

People who make conversation easily never seem to worry about what they are going to say. They often seem to be brimming with confidence and they don't seem to worry what other people think of them.

What is the reason some people can talk and make conversation so easily?

This is a topic that I have researched for a long time. I have discovered several reasons why some people totalk so much. Here are some of them:

Extroverts

Many of the people who easily make conversation are born extroverts. They are very outgoing and they really enjoy being around other people. Extroverts would much rather be in a group of people than be alone. Not everyone is an extrovert.

Some people are by nature introverts. This means they really enjoy being alone. When they are in a group of people, they may be quite quiet as a way of feeling more peaceful.

Confidence and Self Esteem

Having good self-esteem and confidence can make it much easier to make conversation with others. When people truly have good self-esteem, they don't worry very much about what other people are thinking about them, and they don't worry about making conversation mistakes. Thismakes it easy for them to talk easily and freely.

Arrogance

Some people talk a lot because they are very arrogant. Even though they may give an initial impression of confidence, they are simply very conceited. These people are very impressed with themselves and their own sense of self importance. They believe that everyone is also impressed with them as well.

In many cases, people are not impressed with them, but the arrogant person keeps talking and talking because he thinks he is the only one whose opinion is important. They would never truly listen to anyone they are talking with.

Nervousness "

Some people talk and talk not because they are confident, but because they are very anxious. By talking and talking, they can keep their mind occupied so that theydon't notice how nervous they are. They also hope that nobody else notices that they are nervous.

Insensitivity

There are people who keep on talking because they don't pay attention to social cues. They don't notice when the other person they are talking with wants to say something, or wants to leave. They don't listen to the other person and they don't care to hear about their opinions or experiences. Talking to a person who lacks sensitivity is very frustrating.

How can you tell whether you are a person who talks too much?

If several people have told you at different times that you talk too much, it's probably true.

If you keep being told that you talk too much, what should you do?

The first thing you should do is start paying more attention to yourbehaviour during conversations. Are you making a point of listening to the other person? Do you leave space for the other person to talk? Do you let them finish their thoughts without interrupting?

Do your comMents relate to what the other person has just said, or do you just jump into your favourite topics no matter what the other person is interested in?

You can learn to keep your conversations better balanced by leaving more space for the other person to participate in talking.

Starter Clicks But Engine Does Not Turn Over Tech in Trunk?

Starter Clicks But Engine Does Not Turn Over Tech in Trunk?

If the car's starter clicks and the engine does not turn over, this could be caused by several things. The most common cause of clicking when the car is being started is a low battery. Most people would assume that the starter is bad if it only clicks, but low-volTAGe can cause the starter to make this sound.

Starter Clicks But Engine Does Not Turn Over Tech in Trunk?

The battery is the heart of the starting and electrical system. If the battery has been drained or has a weak cell, this can cause the starter to click only. Many times the battery could just been drained due to a door left slightly open, making the dome light stay on. Other times a vanity light or a phone charger could be left on. During my time as a master auto technician, I've had a trustworthy co-worker close me upthe trunk so I could make sure the trunk light went off when the trunk was closed!

In order to test the battery, it must have a good charge. If the battery is not completely charged the tester will indicate that it needs to be charged before testing can proceed. The first step when checking the starter and electrical system is to make sure the battery is in good condition. Most parts stores will check batteries for free. Once it's determined the battery is good the rest of the system can then be checked. Loose or corroded connections can also cause a clicking and for the car not to start.

Starter

The starter solenoid on many Ford vehicle's is on the inner fender well, on most other vehicles the starter solenoid will bemounted on the starter. The clicking is heard many times that is the solenoid. But low-volTAGe either from a drained battery, bad battery, or poor connections can cause this. Most of the time if the vehicle can be jumpstarted the- starter is okay. This would also indicate that the connections to the starter are good.

Alternator

Once the vehicle is running the alternator output can be checked. If the alternator is not charging the battery, it will be drained during the process of starting the car and driving. When the alternator is checked, the volTAGe and amperage output can be measured. Also the diode pattern will be checked to make sure the alternator won't drain the battery when the engine is turned off. In thepast do-it-yourselfers could disconnect the battery while the vehicle is running to check the alternator, if the car kept running the alternator was good. Doing this on Computerized vehicles can be harmful. If the battery is disconnected while a Computerized vehicle is running the alternator output can increase sharply allowing excess volTAGe to spike the Computer.

Battery

When purchasing a replaceMent the cold cranking amps battery required for the vehicle should be checked. It's best to purchase a battery cold cranking amps with more than the minimum required. Also when purchasing a battery you should consider if you want maintenance free or not. If the battery is hard to access or has a cover then a maintenance free battery is preferred. For instance on some Chrysler Sebrings Chevrolet Corvettes and the battery is located behind an inner fender and on to Chevrolet SSR. the battery is located underneath the bed where the spare Tire would normally go. If installing the battery yourself be sure to notice which side is positive and negative in case you were sold the incorrect battery.

1) The engine will not turn over the starter motor will not run

Or

2) The engine turns over but will not fire and run.

This article will adDress the first cause. If you engine turns over but will not fire see my other article.

Start by checking the battery volTAGe. Most Jeeps have a volTAGe Meter on the dash. If the volTAGe is low-below 10 volts, check the following:

1. Fist check to see if there is a cause for the battery to be discharged. Were the lights left on? Doors left open or other power draining accessory left on? If so, turn off the drain and use jumper cables to start using a charged battery from a different vehicle.
2. If there has been no excess power drain, check thecondition of the battery cables. Remove the cables from the battery posts and clean the contacts. Also check the connection of the ground cable to the vehicle body.
3. If the battery cables are clean and making good contact and the volTAGe is still low, verify that the alternator is functioning properly.
4. If the battery continues to fail to start your Jeep, replace the battery.

If the battery voltage is normal but the engine still will not turn over, the most common cause is one of the safety interlocks. On an automatic transmission there is a Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) that only allows the engine to start in neutral or park. The contacts in the NSS can corrode and cause the switch to malfunction. Move the shifter back and forth while turning the key to start. Often themotion will cross a spot on the switch that still works. The NSS can be disassembled and cleaned or simply replaced with a new unit.

If the NSS is working properly but the starter still will not turn, you may have a defective starter or starter solenoid. The starter and solenoid are replaced as a unit on the XJ Cherokees. However before buying as replaceMent starter, check the wiring connection on the starter and the trigger wire to the solenoid. Often these connections can become loose or dirty due to the rigors of off-road driving. Some people have reported that starters can be disassembled and cleaned to correct problems but I have not tried this procedure.

My Car won't Start and Makes a Clicking Noise

My Car won't Start and Makes a Clicking Noise

Nothing is more aggravating than walking out to your car Monday morning and finding it won't start. Instead, all you hear is a click noise when turn the ignition key. What's the problem?

My Car won't Start and Makes a Clicking Noise

If you are unfamiliar with how a car works, you might immediately assume the clicking noise means the engine is dead. It is obvious that power is being turned on, so the lack of even a vibration or jerk would indicate the engine is frozen up, right? Fortunately, the answer is no. Instead, you have an equally aggravating problem somewhere in your starter assembly, but the good news is it will cost a lot less to fix.

There could be a myriad of problems when you hear a clicking noise when starting a car. The first step is to start with the easy things. Check to see if your batteryhas a charge. Next, check the battery cables to make sure the hookups are not corroded. Corrosion can put a damper of the flow of electrical current and can be the enTire problem.

If everything looks okay, the problem may be the solenoid. The what?! The solenoid is essentially a switch that t* th& choke on and off. When your car is just sitting off in the driveway, the solenoid is receiving a current from the battery, but it does not pass it orn to thand starter. When you flip the ignition, a small current signals the solenoid to let the current through to the starter. The starter then turns over. When you have a solenoid that is going bad, the switch can get tweaked and not let the current through correctly. Since the electrical current isn'tenough to firand up the starter, the engine doesn't fire. In some cars, it just makes a clicking noise.

Assuming your solenoid is okay, the problem is most likely going to be your starter. The starter takes a lot of strain when it turns over the car. Sooner or later, it is going to have problems. The starter is usually very sensitive to human emotions. If it senses you need to get somewhere in a hurry, it will usually choose that moMent to go bad!

Is there some easy way to tell what the problem is? Well, easy is a relative term, but you can do to bypass test. The idea is to bypass the solenoid with the electrical current from the battery. And If th terms normally, the starter solenoid is the problem. If it doesn't the starter is theproblem.

You'll notice I didn't Mention anything about testing the ignition switch. It is very rare for them to go bad. If you hear clicking when you turn the ignition on, the problem is not the ignition for the very reason that you are hearing something!

A car that won't start is a pain in the derriere. That being said, fixing it is usually not expensive, so things could definitely be worse.

Different Types of Jump Starters

Different Types of Jump Starters

A flat battery is a very common problem. It might happen due to extreme cold or by accidentally leaving the lights on in the car overnight. It can be quite troublesome to be left stranded on the road, in the dark, or in some remote area. They are very handy devices that is a must for every car owner. Never again will you be left helpless due to battery problems.

Different Types of Jump Starters

Different Types of Jump Starters

The most important thing about them is that they can recharge a battery, after which you can then start your car. The rest of The Job is done by the car's generator. Once the ignition is on, the car will then fully charge the battery. Some types of jump starters work only if the battery is not totally flat. If it has even a little bit of spark left, it can be recharged. However, if it is totallydischarged, then it can't start it.

You must keep the jumper cables in your car because the unit is connected to the car battery with the help of these cables. These comprise of two cables with crocodile clips on each end of the cables. Join the positive ends of the car battery and the unit and then join the negative ends of the two. The car battery is now ready to be recharged. Remember that you have to be careful about joining the right ends of the cables, .otherwise it might cause a spark. You can also take the help of another car to help starting your car. Just join the cables in a similar manner.

The portable battery starter unit is a very convenient device. It can start to battery if it has even a little bit of power left in it. These are small packs that haveenough power to jump start a flat battery, but they get discharged if left for too long. They can be charged form any normal socket in your house, so keep charging them regularly or you may find yourself with a dead jump starter when you need one.

Some types jump starters come with Air compressors to help Tires, basketballs, etc. Some also have a LED that can help you see in the dark if you want to recharge your battery. You can also use them in the house during a power cut. With a 12 volt battery, these jump starters can jump most cars and are a very useful tool.

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking

Does you starter make a *click* sound when you try to start your vehicle?

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking

Each time you turn the ignition switch to start, does the starter just *click* one time?

That is probably the starter solenoid.

If it goes, *click-click-click-click*, and so on, it may just be a low battery.

A low battery that makes the starter *click* a few times doesn't have enough *juice* in it to turn the starter over to turn the flywheel over to turn the crankshaft over to make the engine start...phew!

A simple way to tell if the battery is at fault is to turn the headlights on and turn the ignition switch to start.

If the lights go out, then the battery is probably at fault.

Course, you'll have to run real Fast after you hit the start position in order to see if the lights go out...or have someone out there Watching for you.:-)

You can purchase a small inexpensive battery charger at most malls, or parts store.

The best way to use a *trickle* chargers is to charge the batter all night, or all day, whichever pleases you.

You can try charging the battery. If it runs down again, then you need to do something.

Remove the battery terminals from the battery post, if you have the *post* type, and clean the post and the inside of the cable clamp.

If you have the side mount just loosen the 8mm bolt and clean the terminal where it comes into contact with the battery. Clean the part on the battery, too. :-)

Sometimes the battery will build up a lot of corrosion on the outside of the cable clamp.

When this happens, usually, the inside part of the clamp and post will create a hard metallic-like surface.

This stops the flow of electricity from the alternator to the battery.

When you use the battery's reserve, it's gone, no more being put in.

If the vehicle does crank, it will run off the alternator, which ain't good. :-(

If cleaning the post and recharging the battery doesn't solve the problem, you may need a new one.

Don't run to the nearest *convenience store* and buy a battery.

Take your battery to a place that sells batteries and have it checked.

If it is gone to where old dead batteries go, then you will have to purchase a new one.

You may have other problems...like the alternator; the tension on the alternator belt... several things could make the battery be low...did you leave the parking lights on when you parked, to go shopping? :-)

So, Your Starter Is Just Clicking
